Design problem
The house arrived stripped to raw plaster and open floors, with a painted ceiling and plaster mouldings that could not be lost. Every new room had to serve life today without competing with them.
Key decision
Keep the historic shell as the first thing you read, and set the new interior a register quieter beneath it.
Solution
Restoration, interior architecture and furniture were handled as one: the kitchen, the indoor pool, the dressing room and the bath were fitted into the restored rooms in natural stone, lacquer and oak, and the living room was furnished with MUZEA pieces made for it.

Restoration
The painted ceiling and the plaster mouldings were kept and restored, and nothing new was fixed to them.
Interior

Light
Along the pool the tall arched windows are left bare. Daylight moves across the water and the stone floor through the day.

Material
Dark-veined marble goes where hands and water meet the surface: the kitchen island, the splashback, the edge of the pool.

Bespoke detail
The dressing room is designed as one piece of furniture: lit open shelving on every wall and a central island with a marble top and rounded ends.

Proportion
The bath sits on the axis of the arched window, with the vanity on one side and the shower on the other, so the room reads symmetrically from the door.
Video
Short film made from the project's images.
